The Community Foundation of the Ozarks commissioned Habitat Communication & Culture to research the charitable attitudes and behaviors of donors under 40. The CFO commissioned the research in 2023 with support from the Patterson Family Foundation. The research was prompted by the “Giving by Generations” report from the Lilly School of Philanthropy that indicated younger generations gave at a lesser rate than older generations, but did not consider nontraditional giving through platforms like GoFundMe.

Jumpstart Information Session

Jumpstart helps nonprofits acquire, retain and upgrade individual donors amidst everyday resource constraints, like limited time and technology. The CFO is working with Bonterra and Jumpstart to provide a yearlong fund development cohort that includes a customized fundraising plan, coaching and training for nonprofits.

Shaping Tomorrow

Grant Opportunity

The Shaping Tomorrow Grant Program, supported by a generous gift from David and Stacey O’Reilly, seeks to support CFO nonprofit partners as they develop strategies to attract younger donors based on the report’s insights. A total of $50,000 is available, with a maximum request of $5,000. Nonprofit partners from across the CFO’s service area can apply.

Examples of eligible proposals include:

  • Contracting with a marketing company to produce promotional material or videos, update the nonprofit’s website, or create marketing or communication plans;
  • Hiring a consultant to evaluate and provide agency-specific recommendations;
  • Participating in professional-development opportunities to implement donor relations, communications and marketing, or fundraising plans; or
  • Purchasing or subscribing to a donor database/communications platform; or
  • Joining a Jumpstart cohort of fellow CFO nonprofit partners.

The deadline for applications is 11:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 14.
