Jill Bright named 2019 Humanitarian

Jill Bright founded the Diaper Bank of the Ozarks in 2012, which has since distributed almost four million diapers to families in need across southwest Missouri.

Jill Bright has been named the 2019 Humanitarian Award recipient for her work with the Diaper Bank of the Ozarks.

She will be honored at a luncheon at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 5, at the DoubleTree Hotel in Springfield. Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased online.

Bright founded the Diaper Bank of the Ozarks in 2012 to address a gap between need and access because diapers are not covered under government assistance programs. Since its founding, the 501(c)3 nonprofit organization has provided almost four million diapers across 59 counties in southwest Missouri.

The Humanitarian Award was founded in 1990 by the late Springfield donor Jewell Thompson Schweitzer to honor individuals in our region who excel at serving others in a humanitarian capacity. The Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce organizes a committee to review nominations and select the annual recipient.

This year’s selection committee was comprised of Chamber Chairman-elect Robin Robeson; Dr. John Birchett; Saehee Duran; Carmen Parker-Bradshaw; Jeff Seifried; Dr. Robert Spence; and the Rev. Mark Struckhoff.

Bright will receive a $5,000 cash award, which has traditionally been donated to one or more charities of the winner’s choice.
