CFO Committee Selected Scholarships

The following are applications for scholarships selected by Community Foundation of the Ozarks’ Scholarship Committee. Please review all instructions and eligibility criteria for each scholarship you intend to apply for carefully before submitting your application. Most of the scholarships administered by the Community Foundation of the Ozarks require documentation from the FAFSA. If you have not completed the FAFSA for the coming school year, you may do so at this Web address: www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Hearld and Marge Ambler Scholarship
The Hearld and Marge Ambler Scholarship provides funds to assist a student who is in the third, fourth or fifth year of college/university study. One $5000.00 scholarship will be awarded, which may be renewed if a 3.0 GPA is maintained, and with continued employment preferred. (Download application.)

Dr. Thoms E and Mary M. Ashley Medical Scholarship
The Ashley Medical Scholarship provides an annual scholarship for qualified recipients attending the University of Missouri Medical School, Columbia, MO. One $2500.00 scholarship will be awarded. (Download application.)

Dr. Thomas E. and Mary M. Ashley Nursing Scholarship
The Ashley Nursing Scholarship provides an annual scholarship for qualified recipients attending SBU/St. John’s School of Nursing and Cox School of Nursing. Two scholarships of $500.00 each will be awarded: one to a student at SBU/St. John’s College of Nursing and one to a student at Cox School of Nursing. (Download application.)

J. Kenneth Awbery and Iva M. Awbery Scholarship
The Awbery Scholarship provides funds to graduating seniors from Taney County: Bradleyville, Branson, Forsyth and Hollister Public Schools; one scholarship per school, provided there are eligible candidates. The scholarships may be renewed annually for up to three (3) years, upon approval of the selection committee. Four $3000.00 scholarships will be awarded, renewals based upon maintaining a 2.5 GPA or greater. (Download application.)

The Chris Bell Memorial Scholarship
The Chris Bell Memorial Scholarship provides funds to high school graduates residing in Springfield, Missouri. Two $1,500.00 scholarships will be awarded, and may be renewed through graduate school, providing a 3.0 GPA is maintained. (Download application.)

Curtis Rex Carter Science Scholarship
The Carter Scholarship provides educational funds to encourage development of graduating high school students who have an interest in applied sciences; and, who will remain in the US for employment in the private sector. One new $5000.00 scholarship will be awarded each year, which may be renewed if a 2.8 GPA is maintained. (Download application.)

Community Foundation Memorial Scholarship
The Community Foundation Memorial Scholarship was established to foster and increase a spirit of participation in community service; to aid and encourage outstanding students to continue their education; and, to increase awareness of the Community Foundation. One $1,250.00 scholarship, and two $1,000.00 scholarships will be awarded. (Download application.)

EFCO Rep Scholarship
The representatives of EFCO Corporation have established this scholarship fund to provide financial support to EFCO employees’ children who are pursuing college degrees. Upon recommendation of the selection committee, the amount of $1,000 will be awarded annually. This scholarship is non-renewable. (Download application.)

The Greater Ozarks Chapter of the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses, #144 Scholarship
The Greater Ozarks Chapter of the National Association Scholarship provides funds to promote education for orthopaedic nurses within the greater Ozarks area. One $1000.00 scholarship will be awarded, and is renewable. (Download application.)

Thomas Halbert Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Thomas Halbert, a long-time employee of the Professional [Doctor’s] Building in Springfield, MO. Two scholarships of $1,500.00 will be awarded for 2008-09. The scholarships may be renewed with proof of satisfactory progress. (Download application.)

Jesse Harden Combat Soldier College Tuition Fund
The Harden tuition fund was established to provide financial assistance for male or female service personnel who have completed their military commitment, and are returning from the war on terror. One scholarship will be awarded, which may be renewed if a 2.5 GPA is maintained. (Amount TBA) (Download application.)

Dorothy Chestnut Harman Elementary Education Scholarship
The Dorothy Chestnut Harman Elementary Education Scholarship was established for students specializing in elementary education. One $1,000.00 scholarship will be awarded for the 2008-09 academic year. (Download application.)

Thea Jo Herron Wild Woman Memorial Scholarship
The Thea Jo Herron Wild Woman Scholarship is awarded to a student who most exemplifies the character of the scholarship’s namesake. Ms. Herron was in touch with the “Wild Woman” as described in Clarissa Pinkola Estes’s best selling novel, Women Who Run With Wolves, “ She was wild not in the sense that she was out of control; but that she lived a natural life with innate integrity, and healthy boundaries.” One scholarship of $500.00 will be awarded annually. Marion Bissett Hoblit Scholarship
The Marion Bissett Hoblit Scholarship was established to encourage outstanding COE/Marketing students as they seek higher education. Five $2,500.00 scholarships will be awarded for 2008-09, one to each Springfield Public High School. (Download application.)

Ruth Olesen Kelley Scholarship
The Ruth Olesen Kelley Scholarship was established to promote the education of young women, and to increase the sensitivity of young women to women’s status, accomplishments and struggles. Two $1,500.00 scholarships will be awarded for the 2008-09 academic year. (Download application.)

Bill and Betty Kimberling Scholarship
The Kimberling Scholarship provides assistance to individuals seeking to continue their education in the field of psychology or social work. One $250 scholarship will be awarded for the 2008-09 academic year. (Download application.)

Mark’s Memorial Scholarship
The Mark’s Memorial Scholarship was established to provide scholarships for students who could not otherwise pursue higher education. The scholarship is renewable yearly, contingent upon maintaining a cumulative 2.5 GPA. If the current recipient does not meet renewal criteria, one $4,500.00 scholarship will be awarded for the 2008-09 academic year. (Download application.)

Quigley Jasper County Christian Athlete Scholarship
The Quigley Scholarship provides financial assistance to graduating seniors from any Jasper County public/private or parochial schoolwho have an interest in the ministry. One $500 scholarship will be awarded for the 2008-09 academic year. (Download application.)

SHEM - Southwest Home Education Ministry Scholarship
The SHEM Scholarship was established to provide one or more scholarships to students who have been home-schooled. There will be two - $500.00 scholarship awards for the 2008-09 academic year. (Download application.)

The Springfield High School (SHS) Class of 1948 Scholarship
The SHS Class of 1948 Scholarship was established for a deserving Central High School students with financial need, who wish to pursue higher education. Applicants must be a present or past member of the Kiltie organization. Three $1,300.00 scholarships will be awarded for the 2008-09 academic year. (Download application.)

Ann and Doug Sickles Memorial Scholarship
The Ann & Doug Sickles Memorial Scholarship provides financial aid to non-traditional students who are striving to gain an education in a health-related or social science area. One $1,000.00 scholarship will be awarded. It may be renewed, if criteria is met. (Download application.)

St. John’s School of Nursing Alumni Scholarship
The St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing Scholarship was established to award scholarships to students pursuing a nursing degree at a Springfield, MO nursing school. Two $1,000.00 scholarships will be awarded for the 2008-09 academic year; they are renewable. (Download application.)

Smith-Glynn-Callaway Medical School Scholarship in Memory of Stanley S. Peterson, M.D.
The Smith-Glynn-Callaway Scholarship provides financial assistance to a medical student. One $5,000.00 scholarship will be awarded, with renewal dependent upon the recipient’s satisfactory academic record. (Download application.)

Henry J & Lucille J Straus Scholarship
The Henry J. & Lucille J. Straus Scholarship was established to award scholarships to qualifying students who could not otherwise attend a private college or university. One $1,000.00 scholarship will be awarded for the 2008-09 academic year. The scholarship is renewable, upon maintaining a good scholastic record. (Download application.)

Henry Joseph Struck Memorial Scholarship
The Henry Joseph Struck Memorial Scholarship was established to provide scholarships to sons and daughters of honorably discharged veterans or active personnel. Students must have economic need and be between the ages of 18 and 26 years. One $5,000.00 scholarship will be awarded, with renewal dependent upon maintaining a 3.0 GPA. (Download application.)

Arthur G. Tesar Scholarship
The Arthur G. Tesar Scholarship was established to assist eligible students with the financing of their college education or vocational training. One $5,000 scholarship will be awarded, and may be renewed upon maintaining a cumulative 3.0 GPA. (Download application.)

Kevin Umlauf Foundation Scholarship
The Kevin Umlauf Memorial Scholarship assists deserving students who show promise of academic success, by financing a portion of their college education / vocational training. Three $1,000.00 scholarships will be awarded. (Download application.)

Dr. William Walker Memorial Scholarship
The Walker Scholarship provides funds to assist a medical student. One $2,300.00 scholarship will be awarded for the 2008-09 academic year. (Download application.)
