Operating Procedures
Recommended Regional Foundation Financial Operating Procedures
Regional foundation members must exercise reasonable care when conducting business on behalf of the regional foundation organization. Prudent stewardship of the assets of the regional foundation is essential.
As the mission of the regional foundation is carried out, the regional foundation members will seek four types of contributions from individuals and corporations:
- gifts to the unrestricted grantmaking fund;
- gifts to named endowment funds;
- gifts to capacity building funds;
- gifts to the general operating fund.
It is important to follow standard procedures to ensure these contributions will qualify as tax deductible donations and meet audit regulations.
Fees and Payout
The Community Foundation of the Ozarks’ annual fees for affiliate funds are three-quarters of one percent (75 basis points). Endowment funds typically distribute approximately 5% annually in accordance with the Community Foundation of the Ozarks payout policy. Please remember that Endowment funds never “dip into” the historic contribution when making grant distributions. Capacity Building fund distributions are not limited by historic contribution levels.
