Fund Sets the Giving Circles Standard

Women With Heart Giving Circle founders Carol Silvey, Nancy Franz and Gay Watson.

A group of women interested in promoting women’s heart health in the West Plains area was responsible for creating one of the CFO’s first 2010-11 Giving Circle, which was a new type of fund introduced last year for groups with shared interests in their communities.

“Women with Heart” was formed to raise awareness of heart health issues that affect women in particular and raise money for the cardiac care department at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains.

Nancy Franz chaired the “Women with Heart” Giving Circle. Other members of the Giving Circle are: Kay Garrett, Florence James, Sabrina Lewis, Carol Silvey, Nancy Shaw, Jim Streff, and Mia Willard, as well as Gay Watson, representing OMC, and Robin Morgan, representing the OMC Foundation.

“There are particular issues that affect women when it comes to diagnosing, treating and maintaining our hearts,” Franz said. “Our group is committed to helping other women learn about their hearts so they can survive and thrive to their fullest potential.”

The CFO launched its Giving Circle initiative in recognition of the many groups of friends, colleagues and families across southern Missouri who want to show support for their specific interests. Through their Giving Circles, donors can pool financial support, volunteer efforts, fundraising activities or other types of philanthropic efforts for non-profit causes.

Speaking of “heart,” the City of West Plains reached out to its western neighbor following May’s devastating EF5 tornado by opening the West Plains for Joplin Fund through the CFWP for ongoing recovery efforts. Those funds will help area nonprofits and service providers with relief funds.
