GSAF Caps Off Another Great Year

For a town of any size, the giving spirit and cooperation in Seymour is second to none. The Community Foundation of the Ozarks knows this. That’s why, in spring 2011, the Greater Seymour Area Foundation and many of its beneficiaries were the subject of a short film by Brandon Goodwin. “The Story of Seymour” can be viewed above.

Why Seymour? Let us count the ways.

A grant was given for cameras for each of the Seymour city police officers. These tiny cameras snap on the front of their shirts to help with information and protection when dealing with those that have broken the law. It gives them additional legal help, if needed. Information can be downloaded into their computers.

A matching grant for up to $2,500 was offered; it was to be a permanent benefit and to beautify the town. The Seymour Senior Citizens Group asked for help on their building front to tuck the brick, clean and seal the bricks and a new sign. Work was finished in July 2011.

Finally, one of the GSAF’s major fundraisers again went off without a hitch for the 13th year in a row, GSAF president Janice Blankenship said.

“After GSAF started in 1998 a fundraiser was needed; we decided to try a silent and live auction. I asked four non-board
members to help me with the planning and they graciously said yes,” Blankenship said.

“These four people are still that committee, one now on the [GSAF] board,” she added. “It would not happen without Theresa Cummins, Karen Hoagland, Amie Frantz, and Rachel Hoagland (now a GSAF board member). We appreciate their help of 15 hours that day plus the planning to make it a better experience for those attending.”
