Education Key to Community Growth
The Alton R-IV Public School Foundation accepted a Cooper Phase II matching grant with Gayle Ara Smith, Foundation President Wendell Williams, Sharon Alexander, Wylma Heiskell, Carol Silvey, CFO, Paula Miller, Brenda Ledgerwood, Oregon County Community Foundation President, and School Superintendent Sheila Wheeler.
Regarded as a dynamic member of CFO’s Rural Schools Partnership, the Alton Schools Academic Endowment Fund, a component of the Oregon County Community Foundation, successfully completed the Harry Cooper Supply Company Campaign for the Ozarks challenge to build long-term education funding through philanthropy.
Alton Schools raised $20,006 to receive the matching funds through the Cooper Phase II Challenge during 2010. The total of $30,006 was designated for the educational endowment, which preserves and invests a core amount to create an annual distribution of funds to help stabilize the district’s revenue.
