Awareness, Involvement Grows in Mount Vernon

Mount Vernon Area Community Foundation volunteer and local rancher Steve Jones seasons thin ribeyes for the MVACF’s annual dinner.
In 2011, the Mount Vernon Area Community Foundation awarded $5,000 in grants to five local organizations. The money will help feed hungry residents, buy computers for the library, help build a new pavilion in the main city park, provide a Nintendo Wii and a television to promote exercise among senior citizens, and pay for supplies for the county disaster response team.
In addition to the grantmaking process, the year’s highlights include the annual Grilled Ribeye Steak Sandwich Dinner, which attracted more than 80 people for the mouth-watering steaks prepared by local ranchers.
