Foundation Focuses on Feeding the Needy

Weaubleau Junior High Teacher Patti Hutton distributes food for the school’s Back/Snack program to Amber Barnett, a member of the Teen Outreach Program after-school club that volunteers to pack the food.
The Hickory County Community Improvement Foundation had a busy year in 2011 with a 5K run below the Pomme de Terre Dam. They awarded grant money to the Back/Snack program in Weaubleau ($875), to Hickory County Public Health for infant car seats ($1,000), the Care Community for home repairs for the elderly ($875) and to the Traditions Christmas Parade in Hermitage ($250).
The HCCIF also hosted a Dinner Theater that was very successful, and had its annual golf tournament at Shadow Lake, which resulted in $3,600 going to Hickory County fire departments.
Due to the loss of funding for the Hickory County Food Pantry, the Foundation is working to assist the pantry by providing an umbrella agency for funding assistance, donations and grant assistance. The Board has allocated $1,000 for filing of a 501(c)3 and $600 for the Share the Harvest processing fees.
New President John Kelly anticipates a major initiative next year will be working with the food pantry to acquire enough funding to maintain its operations and perhaps even improve the pantry for the future.
