El Dorado Springs Community Foundation Completes Hunger Challenge
The EDSCF recently completed the Ozarks Million Dollar Hunger Challenge, raising $6,671.17 for the Church of Christ Food Pantry. You can read the complete story at the El Dorado Springs Sun’s website.
Foundation Helps Partners Reach for the “Stars”

Special guest John Goodman, Lighthouse Children’s Theatre’s Lynne Hedrick, and emcee Ned Reynolds from KYTV at the “Lights on Broadway” fundraiser for the theater, a non-profit partner of the El Dorado Springs Community Foundation.
Over the years, the El Dorado Springs Community Foundation has done a lot for its community and taken pride in its associations with great local partners, and 2011 was no different in that regard. A major star and a major food undertaking were just two highlights of the Cedar County community’s year.
Of particular regional interest was the appearance of actor John Goodman at the “Lights on Broadway” fundraiser for the Lighthouse Children’s Theatre, an agency partner and component fund of the El Dorado Springs Community Foundation. The well-known star of “Roseanne,” “The Big Lebowski” and many other films, who went to college in Springfield, spoke to the crowd at the annual fundraiser.
The EDSCF also dug in to raise funds for the Ozarks Million Dollar Hunger Challenge II, which aimed to raise funds that would be matched by the Walmart State Giving Foundation and donated to a local food pantry – in this case, the Church of Christ Food Pantry.
“The Church of Christ Food Pantry is a wonderful story that represents the charitable efforts of a local church, and the benefits of the Foundation, in leveraging resources to provide the best impact for our community,” said EDSCF President Kay Forest.
The Foundation also made more than $10,000 in community grants — in addition to other distributions — for projects ranging from scholarships for high school seniors to meals for senior citizens.
