The Lindsay Austin Smith Community Crisis Fund, established in memory of Lindsay Austin Smith, a Fair Grove woman who died at the age of 20 following a lightning strike on July 30, 2011, is now accepting applications. This field-of-interest fund is designed to support unmet emergency needs resulting from health/medical emergencies, inability to work due to medical personal or family emergency, or needs resulting from natural disasters or fire. Preference will be given to residents of the Fair Grove and northern Greene County area.
A downloadable application can be found on the Community Foundation of the Ozarks website at http://www.cfozarks.org/cfo-grantmaking-programs/field-of-interest-funds/. Grant decisions will be made by a committee of Lindsay’s family members and friends from the Fair Grove area.
“The main thing is to try and keep Lindsay’s memory going,” said Todd Smith, Lindsay’s father. “She was a caring person, and she would like knowing that this fund is helping people in her name.”
Todd and Lindsay’s mother, Tracy Smith, opened the fund in memory of Lindsay and in honor of her young daughter, Faith. A series of fundraisers organized by employees of Associated Wholesale Grocers raised more than $5,500, and a rodeo at the Fair Grove Saddle Club raised more than $15,000. Those events helped establish the fund. More events and fundraisers are planned in the future.
