Springfield YEP Awards $1,900 in Youth-Oriented Community Grants

The Springfield Chapter of the Youth Empowerment Project awarded $1,900 in Spring 2012 grants on Tuesday, April 3, presenting checks to five local organizations. These programs were:
• $480 to the Rare Breed Youth Outreach Center for services related to keeping youth off the streets. Rare Breed will soon be moving into a larger facility on the west side of downtown Springfield.
• $250 to Cox Health Child Life Development for welcome gifts and to stock the family kitchen on the pediatric floor at Cox South, for families facing a stay in the hospital.
• $500 to Hillcrest High School’s Hornets vs. Hunger project, a new program offering meals and nutrition throughout the week to students who may not otherwise be fed outside of school.
• $335 to Bailey Alternative High School’s Service Learning Program, to help attending the National Service-Learning Conference in Minneapolis, Minn.
• $335 to Isabel’s House-The Crisis Nursery of the Ozarks to help with transportation costs getting children under the nursery’s care to and from school.
YEP of the Ozarks is a 38-chapter program that focuses on youth philanthropy in rural Ozarks places. YEP students achieve their philanthropic goals through four tenets: community education on the importance of philanthropy, service to our local places, fundraising for youth projects, and grantmaking to support local youth-oriented and directed programs.
